Publisher Description
The app lets your brain experience a very positive stimulus (music or other activity) while occasionally hearing small bits of triggers. It can play a trigger so short and quiet that it does not even trigger you. As you increase the volume and/or length (duration) of the trigger, you will begin to feel something physically, but minimal or no emotions. This experience can reduce your response to specific misophonia triggers. As your response slowly declines, you can slowly increase the length and volume of the trigger to maintain a tiny miso-response. This is intended to be a very pleasant experience - a Happy Time as it says in the app. This app enables counterconditioning, which is a neurological process to reduce an acquired reflex (which drives your misophonia experience).
Load your favorite music from iTunes. You can load a trigger using iTunes or record and edit a trigger with the app. Your job is to relax (or dance) to the music, and allow your misophonic response to fade away.
This method has reduces the misophonic response in people with very specific triggers. For example, if you trigger to the sound of a family member chewing, but not strangers, this method may be effective. If you trigger to the chewing sounds of anyone (and anywhere), then this method is unlikely to produce improvement in the way you react to real-life trigger sounds.
Relaxing muscles before triggers has been reported to reduce the misophonic response. This app can also be used to practice the behavioral skill of relaxing (which is a behavior learned through practice).
Caution: Do not use the Trigger Tamer if it is unpleasant. Don't "be tough" and use a strong trigger. This app is for wimps. Take it easy, start with a very low volume, short trigger that creates an "eye blink" size reaction. Allow your response to change slowly. When the response decreases, you can then increase the length and volume of the trigger, always keeping your response very small and brief.
NEW FEATURE: The ability to download and use your music files and trigger recordings from other devices. With this version you can upload your trigger recordings via email and you can download audio files as email attachments. Once downloaded, you can copy them into the Trigger Tamer and use them.
Version History GREAT NEWS: You can download trigger recordings and music files by emailing them as attachments and downloading the attachment to your phone. The files can be copied into the Trigger Tamer with the Audio icon (then Download icon) so you can use them with the Playlist and Trigger Creators. If you have a trigger recording on another device, you can use the Email option on the Audio page to send the audio file to an email address and then email the attachment from that email to the email on you Trigger Tamer device. You must have the actual files, such as an mp3 or m4a file. You cannot simply use material that you "rent" Spotify. 3.21 Aug 14 The app has been updated for iOS 26 3.20 Jun 26 The app has been updated for iOS 26 3.19 Jun 25 Bug Fixing. 3.18 12/05/2023 Bug Fixing. 3.17 09/27/2023 Bug Fixing. 3.16 12/29/2022 Bug fixes and improvements. 3.15 09/29/2022 Bug fixes and performance improvements. 3.14 05/05/2022 Bug fixes and performance improvements. 3.13 04/22/2022 Bug fixes and performance improvements. 3.12 06/10/2021 Bug fix and Performance Improvements. 3.11 02/18/2021 Performance Improvements. 3.10 02/09/2021 Minor bug fix 3.9 05/25/2020 fixed volume issue. 3.8 04/27/2020 update ios 13 SDK 3.7 04/07/2020 Fix Bluetooth functionality. 3.6 01/02/2020 recording issue fix 3.5 02/04/2019 Updated help page. 3.4 10/26/2018 Intermittent problems fixed. 3.3 08/25/2017 Bugs fixes. There is an intermittent bug where the app must be deleted and reloaded. Because of this, please email your precious trigger recordings to your email to save them in case the app needs to be reloaded. Let me know if this happens to you, and what caused it. 3.1.1 07/10/2015 Fixed bug for history file.
But a major new bug. Songs will not transfer from iTunes into Trigger Tamer. The work around is to use the Misophonia Reflex Finder (free) app to transfer songs from iTunes into the Trigger Tamer. Files are shared between the Reflex Finder and the Trigger Tamer. 3.1 06/25/2015 Bluetooth added for treatments (iOS 7 and higher)
Support added for m4a music files.
Trigger Volume does not change with Playlist Volume.
More information is stored for each treatment session in the History.
Labels added to parameter settings on Treatment page.
Known Bug: When you close the app (wipe it off the screen), it corrupts the database that tracks the history and defines the triggers. If you get an error on the trigger ("there is a deleted song") then press the circle "i" icon and select the trigger file again. Fixing this is a priority. 3.0 04/08/2015 Version 2 has two new features. It has a Trigger Recorder that really works (bug fix), and it has a Trigger Editor. The Trigger Editor is opened by pressing the lower left corner button (Edit Trigger) on the Trigger Creator screen. It allows you to trim the leading and trailing edge of the audio clip and adjust the volume.
This version also fixes the bug of not being able to transfer some songs from iTunes into the app.
To our knowledge, all bugs are fixed! We are so happy to finally get this released. 2.0 09/19/2014 Known Bugs:
1. Don't use the voice recorder in the app. Use the voice memo app or another app. Email the file to yourself. Edit the leading silence. Drag and drop it into iTunes, and transfer back to your phone.
2. Some songs will not transfer from iTunes into the Trigger Tamer. The developer has been working on this bug, but can't fix it. Very frustrating to you and me. 1.3 02/10/2014
